History of the Cement Plant
If you read about Center Furnace then you'll remember that the famous Nannie Kelly sold the furnace and property to the Superior Portland Cement Company in 1906. (If you didn't read about it, then what are you waiting for?? Click here. We'll wait for you.) A mammoth cement factory was constructed that year. They tried to use the furnace for a few years but it couldn't keep up so they abandoned it. Below are a couple pictures of that factory. also referred to as "The Old Plant."

That plant was replaced by a more sophisticated factory which began operating in 1964. Here's a picture of that one:
